The Kestrel Primer by Robert Eiser
The North American Kestrel’s place in falconry has often been under estimated with their potential as hunting hawks over looked. I am happy to say that in modern falconry, falconers have come to appreciate their value, while advancing Kestrel husbandry and management. That being said, I am hopeful the reader might consider The Kestrel Primer as one of these advances. The Primer is based upon observations in the areas of falconry I practice. When handled properly the Kestrel rewards her falconer favorably — if you have one that flies with style — they are indeed impressive. My eyas tiercel aka “Handsome” never fails to make a good showing of himself often outflying wild Kestrels encountered in the field.
